I slice of pizza with artichoke and spinach, 1 cinnamon bun, I pecan swirl.

 

I woke up this morning, totally different to the previous 2 nights… 6.20 and no groaning. However, I was hungry and I did know my bakery destination. Today I was going to Brioche bakery in China town…I had a chocolate brioche and a coffee. I don’t think I like brioche that much, it’s not stodgy or buttery enough unless made into a pudding and so I tried again. Café Trieste, a little Italian café still in China town. As I walked in I was greeted with a “HEY” and whilst I was looking at my choice of pastries this greeter also told me that “everything is great, you wont be disappointed”. I didn’t believe him, it wasn’t looking promising. The croissants looked old and shrivelled but the café had a nice feel to it (full of old people, no hipsters so less intimidating) so I stayed. I ordered a strong latte (Yes I usually take it black Kim) I should have left it at that because the pastries really didn’t look good but I was still really hungry. I asked for my pastry. The guy told me to help myself and handed me a paper plate? I thought id be European and pick it up with a napkin and I put the paper plate back, the guy handed me the paper plate again, NO NO NO I’m going to put this paper plate back and I muttered to him “Oh ill not use a paper plate” and put my pastry which was balancing awkwardly on the napkin onto the counter ( a bit like me in San Francisco). Because of the positioning of my pastry on the napkin the man behind the counter thought I was going to eat it the wrong way round (it was a like an oblong doughnut filled with chocolate one side open and one side closed). My open bit was on the napkin and my closed bit was off the napkin (I'm having a wee giggle, Kim may delete or change that description) And so he proceeded to tell me how to eat my pastry. I let him do this and managed yet again to feel utterly embarrassed. I have just been told how to eat a bloody pastry!!!!! I’m a fecking baker! So I take it outside and eat it I don’t want him watching me. Trying to be anything other than what you are will always back fire (Although I am technically European). You might as well line up for a whack on the head with a big plastic oversized mallet. I wish I had taken the paper fecking plate. I seem to be using the opposite packaging to everyone else. In the bakery yesterday I put my pastry in a brown bag and everyone else had there’s in white ones… HOW DO THEY KNOW?

The title is what I had for lunch… I think I have to get out of this city.
